The rectangle / Esthetics and Work

The opposition between the individual being and the family, as a space of socialization but also of conflicts, crosses the work of Fabian España. The author explores his different meanings in the contemporary Chilean society. The description goes from the universe of relationships offered in a house as a common space to the imaginary value and identity that define its residents. Looks into the relationships of belonging and the traumatic realities that often crosses them. To do so, he bravely starts from his own family, his own territory. During his early years he takes as a central axis the productive activity of his place of origin (exploitation of the forest and the ocean) and is able to submerge the spectator in the ways of life and the survival that the extreme zones experience. Addressees the relation between the rural and urban, the loneliness, the identity of the small territories or the uprooting and the sings of decadency. Located in the noblest inheritance of the humanist documentaries, with the Magnum School as an ideal place, his work progresses from a classism that develops around new approaches of a more contemporary inspiration, more disruptive, more distrustful from a messianic and savior logic. His work, in the author’s words, "develops a way of looking where seeks to penetrate in to the relations generated in the bosom of every social group".
